Bangla New Year Celebration is a parts and parcels of Bangalee (Bengali) culture. April 14 is the 1st day of Bengali calender. Millions of people celebrates the day in Bangladesh on the 1st day of each year. The Bangladeshi Community living in Toronto celebrated the new year through many events. Ontario Bengali Cultural Society (OBCS) organized Boishaki Mela. The event took place in Regent Park, Toronto on May 17, 2014. Over 1,000 audience and 100 artists and performers participated in Baishakhi Mela.

Matthew Kellway MP and Michael Prue MPP of Beaches-East York attended the event as special guests.
